The Preventive System

At Thornleigh Salesian College, the Preventive System, inspired by Don Bosco, underpins how we work with all our students. The system is built on principles of reason, religion and loving kindness, fostered through relationships built on mutual trust and respect.

Don Bosco sought to create the right conditions and environment in which young people can make the best choices which will enable them to grow into “good Christians and honest citizens”. He did this by creating:

  • A Home in which young people can feel safe and know that they belong.
  • A School which prepares them for the tests of life.
  • A Church where they can find meaning and purpose.
  • A Playground which allows them to celebrate life and friendship.

At Thornleigh we strive to create this same environment for our students. In particular, the Year Teams monitor students' progress and offer pastoral care to all. At the same time, the Safeguarding team ensures the safety and well-being of all students, promptly addressing any concerns. The Preventive system especially  plays a pivotal role in supporting vulnerable students.

The Bosco Centre is a nurturing space, providing tailored interventions and support services to address various needs. Additionally, the SEND team ensures that individualised support plans are implemented to cater to specific learning requirements, fostering an inclusive environment. Together, these components create a comprehensive support network that proactively identifies and addresses challenges, empowering vulnerable students to thrive academically and emotionally within the school community.
