Attendance

For a child to reach their full educational achievement, a high level of attendance is essential.

As a parent, you greatly influence your child’s attendance; which directly impacts their performance at GCSE. Even attendance in the younger years impacts their results.

Good Attendance is 97% or greater! Only 45% of students who have attendance below 97% achieve 5 or more good GCSE grades; whereas; 82% of students who have 97% or more achieve 5 or more GCSE grades.

At Thornleigh, we use SOL attendance to track and monitor attendance. You should be aiming for your child to be in the green group to maximise their academic achievement.

It can be tricky deciding whether or not to keep your child off school when they're unwell. If you keep your child at home, it's important to inform the school every day your child is absent with a reason. To support you in your decision the NHS have produced guidance at the following link www.nhs.uk

In September 2024 there is new national guidance for attendance penalties.
